Special Right Triangles and How they Relate to the Pythagorean Theorem

Home Nugget 15 and 16
Assigned on Tuesday December 4, 2007
Due on Wednesday December 5, 2007

Students argued that 2 of the 5 questions originally assigned on home nugget #15 were unreasonable because they did not have access to relevant information. The two questions were based on a familiarity with special right triangles (those with angle measures of 30,60,90 or 45, 45, 90 degrees) and so a second opportunity was extended to retry the problems this evening with the new advantage of having discussed these themes in class.

A new set of five problems was also added to the home nugget mix. The five questions were crafted by 7th graders last year and hopefully breath new life into what can otherwise be predictable problem sets.

Therefore, the following is due tomorrow:

From Looking for Pythagoras
Pages 46, 47 and 48 problems 1 through 5

From Double-Sided Practice Sheet provided in class (has a picture of a roller-coaster on the front) all problems

FCAs
2 points: all problems completed according to the required format above
2 points: two random problems will be graded for accuracy
