Test #2 of the Second Term

As part of this blog, I will try to include more frequent, brief class summaries to give families a sense of what skills or themes we are developing on a daily basis.

Summary:
Students took Test #2 of the second term today. The exam was comprised of 10 multiple-choice questions, 8 of which students had to provide explanations for to receive credit. The test covered the majority of topics from the math book Thinking with Math Models which include:
  1. Collecting data from experiments and display that data in tables and graphs
  2. Constructing equations in the form y=mx + b to express linear patterns that appear in tables and graphs
  3. Recognizing non-linear patterns in tables and graphs and describing those patterns using slope and intercepts
  4. Interpreting the shapes of graphs and the stories they tell

This weekend, students will have a preview of a high-school lesson on statistics to correlate with the investigations we conducted this week on our heights, arm spans, hand and foot lengths. The terms to pay close attention to are: line plots, stem and leaf plots, mean, median and mode.
