Today's class was comprised of two components:
1. The first involved revisiting purely linear relationships; in particular having students write equations given varied data. Linear relationships form the basis for understanding myriad other math relationships and students are beginning to really grasp the idea that linearity is premised on constant differences in data sets.
The subset of skills students put to use were:
writing equations in the form y = mx + b
finding slope and y-intercept
sketching a graph of a line by creating a table of x, y values given an equation
2. The second component involved writing a math journal entry on what is known in math as a geometric progression. Students are learning about a form of geometric progression known commonly as compound interest. They are searching for ways to easily forecast the value of dollar amounts, given an interest rate and a specified period of time.
Finally, today marks the final reminder that students must bring Home Nuggets #19, 20, 21 and 22 to class tomorrow as these lessons are directly related to Quiz #2 of the 2nd term. Students were asked to pay special attention to this week's FCAs which have remained consistent for the last 4 days.
