Creating New Opportunities for Exploring Concepts from Invesgation 1 of Say it with Symbols

The following directions were provided to students in a handout on Friday.

Home Nugget #32
Assigned on Friday February 29, 2008
Due on Monday March 3, 2008

Investigation #1 of Say it with Symbols offers an almost overwhelming amount of challenges all related to symbolic notation and equivalent expressions. Very few students seemed totally confident with all concepts, partially because there is simply a real need to practice further. To satisfy this deficiency, you are challenged to do the following:
Re-invent the following problems in the same way that I re-invent problems for the assessments you take. This is to say that you should be creative in changing values, arrangements and even potential questions asked about a particular problem. Once you have re-written each problem, you are expected to solve them as well.

The problems are as follows:
Page 13 # 3 Page 14 # 6 Page 15 #13 Page 16 # 27
Page 18 #51 Page 19 # 53, 54

Then simply solve problems 58 and 59 on page 21 bearing your FCAs in mind.
