Students were urged to use this home nugget as a true study opportunity in the following sense. Studying for a content-specific assessment involves:
- Either working through or re-inventing all or most problems assigned on home nugget assignments related to a particular assessment.
- Collaborating in person, via phone or email with peers for the purpose of asking questions, seeking advice or simply supporting one another.
The vast majority of students are simply unfamiliar with this process and accustomed to simply showing up for an assessment with the hope that they are sufficiently familiar with material to get by. This sort of strategy is completely ineffective at this level of mathematics where one is expected to have practiced to the point of mastery when you sit down to an assessment.
Students were counseled that tomorrow's quiz covers material beginning with Home Nugget #9 right up to and including #13. All quiz questions will be adapted from these lessons.
