Sharing Our Expertise on Fundamental Concepts in Looking for Pythagoras

In the past two days we have taken a whirlwind tour of concepts introduced by Ms. Ingram in my absence. Students have been challenged to prove their understanding of themes including:

  • Locating coordinate pairs and finding distances between points.
  • Defining geometric shapes and drawing them based on given vertices.
  • Finding areas of polygons.
We are ultimately leading up to the discovery of the Pythagorean Theorem, once more emphasizing the process of self-discovery as opposed to being lectured and drilling incessantly.

Using labsheet 2.2 and a straightedge, draw 8 squares, each with a different area. There are 4 upright squares and 4 tilted squares. Label each square with its area and side lengths.

FCAs
