Preparing for Explorations in Geometry

Dear Parents, Students and Families,

I wanted to let you know that I will be out of school for the next two weeks with a scheduled return date of November 26, 2007 so that I may take a much anticipated paternity leave. Given the holidays on Nov 12, early-release day on Nov 21 and holidays on Nov 22 and 23, I will actually be out of class for a total of 7 days.

In my absence, students will continue their present course of study with a veteran former O'Bryant math teacher, Ms. Ingram. Students have been informed that Ms. Ingram will use her own discretion to continue both instructing and assessing students as she sees fit and that her conclusions will be averaged into students' 2nd term grade. Put plainly, students will continue to be held accountable for their math work and progress.

For those parents wishing to contact me regarding student progress, I kindly ask your patience until my return on the 26th. Should the matter be too pressing, you can direct questions to the assistant headmaster Mr. MacLeod.

Finally, families should check on Snapgrades early next week to get a sense of how students are performing thus far in the 2nd term. (which is relatively brief considering both the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks are in the midst of it)

I continue to wish students and parents the best and look forward to continuing our math explorations on November 29th.

Respectfully,
N. Hodjat

Due on Tuesday November 13, 2007 (Monday is a holiday)

Coordinate Grid Graphing Activity
You are asked to solve the simple equations for the practice sheets labelled "Say Cheese" and "Too Pooped" which are essentially a reinforcement of fraction operations skills.
You then take these solutions and attempt to graph the coordinate pairs you are provided on the grids that were given in class. If you are successful in both finding the right values and in graphing correctly, you will end up with two pictures, one of a teddy bear, the other of a mouse.

FCAs
Students are advised to complete the lesson as diligently and meticulously as possible. Ms. Ingram has the option of collecting and grading the lesson if she so chooses. She will likely look for accuracy and presentation in your work.
